English version of a project "TCCC"

  1. Project History

The war in Eastern Ukraine is going on for almost 3 years as of now. Getting to know a unique team of Ukrainian military medics, and also getting to know hundreds of people whose lives have been saved by these professionals inspired us to create this documentary film. New Ukrainian history is being created by hands of these uncommon medics every day. Sometimes we call our project “Faces of Ukraine”.

Project Idea

O ur story is about Denis Surkov, a children's reanimatologist from Dnipro city, Ukraine. Having seen young Ukrainian soldiers’ arm and foot amputations in the city hospital, he could not stand the fact that military healthcare has become nearly helpless. Denis packed his suitcase and went to Europe, where he gained up-to-date knowledge of military and tactical medicine.

Later on Denis and his team took part in an international competition on tactical medicine, where Ukrainian team took the third place. Not bad for a pediatric reanimatologist, isn’t it? The doctor returned to Ukraine as a qualified ТССС instructor. TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) is a military medical training program which is adopted by NATO countries. Denis founded a team of TCCC medics and started sharing his skills among people who also want to help their country during the difficult period.

Problematics

E very day young Ukrainian soldiers die on the battlefield in Eastern Ukraine. In many cases they die due to the lack of experience and modern technology in Ukrainian military medical treatment. Of course, war is war. Someone kills, and someone, on the contrary, has to save lives. We are going to highlight the savers. We will show people whose calling brought them to save others from the paws of death, sometimes at the price of their own life.

Objectives

This story describes Ukrainian medics who have united for the sake of an important lifesaving mission. All things that Denis and his team do all over Ukraine are fantastic and are worth public awareness. Besides tactical medicine training courses for military and paramedics, TCCC team provides fr ee first aid training for civilians in different regions of Ukraine. The free first aid training is available to practically anyone! The goal of our creative team is not only letting people know about these tough tactical medics, but also popularizing the free first aid training, since it gives skills which are highly important for absolutely any human being.

Implementation

At the current stage of work our team has filmed the footage of field trainings which were conducted in Lviv and Kyiv with participation of instructors from the Ukrainian ТССС Council and the Ukrainian Council of Reanimatologists. We have also filmed several interviews with film characters. Besides the above-mentioned episodes our goal is to film 3 more tactical trainings and several social events where our main character Denis will participate. In addition to that we plan to give a view of his day-to-day life, the life of an ordinary doctor from Dnipro city. We will observe Denis’work in the city hospital, visit him at home, and become acquainted with him and his family in order to fully reveal the portrait of this exceptional professional and strong personality.

To get the audience to know Denis Surkov at a closer glance, we plan to visit Dnipro city, the home city of the main character, for 5 days. We need funds for the filming equipment rent, transportation, food and living. The required amount for the Dnipro trip is 50,000 UAH (about 2,000 USD).

We also plan to film the field training by TCCC team at Kirovograd military base. Ukrainian military will provide food and living, but we still require funds for transportation and filming equipment rent. The required amount is 36,000 UAH (about 1,500 USD).

Some footage will also be filmed in Kyiv, where we plan to capture trainings for civilians at the Civilian Self-Defense Training Center. The expenses planned for Kyiv footage filming sum up to 15,000 UAH (about 600 USD).

And, finally, we plan to take a trip to the war zone in Eastern Ukraine where medics will be giving Ukrainian military first aid training in front line conditions. The trip requires 23,000 UAH (about 900 USD).

Final montage of the video material, including color correction and graphics editing, requires involving external professionals whose work costs 36,000 UAH (about 1,500 USD).

Total estimated expenses for completion of the movie amount to 160,000 UAH (about 6,500 USD).
