Support Hromadske TV

Hromadske TV is a media for the viewer.

Hromadske was launched by a group of journalists who were disillusioned with journalism in Ukraine and tired of political interference in their work.  From May to November 2013 a team of journalists, editors and cameramen were thoroughly preparing for the establishment of  Hromadske: developed the rules and principles, outlined the strategy for the coming years, thought out the future program.

First Hromadske broadcasts were planned for the late November, confined to the Day of Freedom in Ukraine and Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, where Ukraine was supposed to sign the Association Agreement with the EU.

Challenges

Disruption of the Agreement signing and the people gathering at the Maidan (central Independence Square in Kiev) changed the plans. From the second day of Maidan the Hromadske launched its broadcasting. The Hromadske had no other choice but to mobilize and speedup its development. During the first two weeks the Hromadske was viewed by hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, and the online air were rebroadcasted by the regional TV channels.

Despite fierce amount of work all employees of the Hromadske were volunteers by the end of November. Only in December the Hromadske started to pay its employees.

Team

Many journalists of the Hromadske have experience in launching new projects. One of the most remarkable was the creation of Channel 5 in 2003.

In the world there are practically no examples of the creation of public broadcasting “from the bottom.” Therefore, this is a response to the defeat in the previous projects with high expectations.

The Hromadske team consists mainly of journalists. In 2014, it is important to reinforce it with experts in other areas: management, finance, marketing, HR, security, and technical staff.

The Hromadske team it is Mustafa Nayem, Nataliya Gumenyuk, Sergiy i Andrushko, Dmytro Gnap, Andrii Saychuk, Yulia Bankovaya, Tetiana Danylenko, Nastya Stanko, Zurab Alasaniya, Bohdan Kutiepov, Danylo Yanevsky, Maryana Pochtar and many others. The leader of the Hromdske, Roman Skrypin, was elected in October.

Financing

The Hromadske is a very economical project. Its budget is hundreds of times smaller than the budgets of major national channels, and its team includes ten times less employees.

The Hromadske is rapidly evolving to meet the needs of the audience in honest, proven and comprehensive information. This is ongoing and continuous process. It needs persistent daily work, moreover, given the current political crisis, it requires around the clock efforts. Apart from the journalists and editors the project will need professional managers and specialized experts. The Hromadske costs shall increase next year, although they shall remain incomparably lower than other media. On the web page of the Hromadske TV there is an opportunity to support the project via the special service  PAY PAL that will allow to accept payment from abroad. Please visit our web page.

Contributions allocation

The Hromadske treats responsibly its work and wants to ensure the sufficiency of resources under any circumstances. The funds being collected currently by the Hromadske will be allocated for the direct activities, production costs, fees or salaries to its employees. You can already see the interim financial report here.

The 2013 report shall be presented at the early 2014.

Meanwhile, the Hromadske is actively seeking donor funding for various projects (such as investigations, specific programs), and expects to increase revenues from sponsors and ads.

Support from the audience is not only the ability to finance the activities of Hromadske. It is also a manifestation of trust, dialogue between the audience and those they are served by. Trust of the viewer is the main value of the Hromadske. The Hromadske mission is to create an information field providing for the improvement of Ukraine.
